More About Me...

Jim Killpatrick, is the former frontman of the appropriately named indie outfit Shotgun & Jaybird. D-Rock alumni and SassyFest guru Shotgun Jimmie aka Jim Kilpatrick is set to release his new record Still JImmie on You've Changed Records. The label is a collaboration with Steve Lambke (Baby Eagle) of the Constantines and members of Attack In Black plus Jimmie.

Another Tit-Bit...

Shotgun Jimmie had been recording a new record at the Attack In Black studio and after a brief discussion one night after a session, the decision was made that You've Changed would be releasing "Still Jimmie" on LP and digital download on March 10th 2009 (distributed to stores by Outside Music). With much more by other wonderful Canadian artists to come...

Independent Musicians Rock

Independent musicians rock because they don’t necessarily have to play by the rules of the establishment. I’m not saying that there aren’t some great mainstream artists out there because there are plenty. Independent musicians however sometimes have a little bit more freedom over how their final cuts will sound.

They also have the extreme advantage of not having to pay all the publishers, promotion companies, management firms, etc. The playing field has been somewhat leveled with the Internet. It appears that these are good times for the modern day musician! Generally speaking an independent musician will get to know their fan base a bit closer as well. That always makes for good support and great shows. I read and hear a lot from Indie music guys complaining because this didn’t work out and that label went with somebody else. I mean I get wanting to sign with a label and all but just keep in mind of all the money you’re sharing with that label. It seems to me if you’re good enough you shouldn’t need too much outside influence. Stay independent and market yourself!

Have you ever been to a small concert venue with an unknown artist and been completely floored after the show is over? This is what I’m talking about. Some of these people are so good and you think to yourself “I wonder why they aren’t huge stars?” I’m guessing that some of them like it that way and don’t want to be too much in the lime light. However, if you’re really good, you love the attention and especially the money then as a true musician it seems you owe it to your fans and yourself to begin seriously marketing your music. Anybody can do what the big studios do now days. Hopefull this will help you to better understand my position when I say “Independent Musicians Rock.”
